Catholic Church, AKNP holds on to Top 3; Kim Seokjin at number 2

The Catholic Church stays at Number one for the second half of November. November is liturgically known as the Month of Remembrance and various masses, novenas and religious commemorations for the departed ones filled social media. Apart from this month-long religious event, however, the 27th day of the month also marks the start of the Advent – the season of prayer which Catholics celebrate in preparation for the birth of Christ.

Worldwide handsome Kim Seokjin (Jin) of BTS occupies the second place. With his impending mandatory military enlistment in December of this year, Jin became the main point of conversation from various BTS fan sites and media sites. At the same time, his album and single The Astronaut had more than 1 million copies sold. Jin also achieved the Number 1 spot in the Brand Reputation Ranking among Kpop male members in Korea.

GMA 7’s show, Abot Kamay na Pangarap proves its trending power at Number 3. The episodes for the latter half of November had twists and turns, providing viewers a variety educational, entertaining and inspiring medical situations. The audience could especially empathize with Analyn (portrayed by Jillian Ward) in the episode where she was at a crossroad, forced to choose between personal affiliations and her medical duties.

BTS, JK and RM joins Jin at the Top 5

It’s the end-of-the-year awards season in Korea and, as expected, SK powerhouse Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) ends up on our top trending list at Number 4. The boys received a total win of wins from the Melon Music Awards 2022 and MAMA 2022 including the Platinum Award—making them the most awarded idol group in K-pop history. Added under Number is BTS Leader Kim Namjoon (RM) for his solo album Indigo, a very highly anticipated milestone which is to be released on 02 December.

BTS Jeon Jungkook (JK) is at fifth among the trends. His solo song, “Dreamers” is the official anthem of the FIFA World Cup 2022 was first heard at the opening of the tournament with a stellar performance with Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi. In addition to this, the annually anticipated Spotify Wrapped stats which dropped on November 30th revealed that Jungkook is the most streamed k-pop artist on Spotify for 2022. Jungkook trended among Filipinos on this post by a Filipino OFW in Qatar who had a selfie and interacted with JK:

Sports fans win the trending game again!

Cheers to all Filipino volleyball fans! PVL 2022 joins the biggest trends of this month at sixth. The league continues and the avid supporters express their joys and frustrations towards the matches, as well as their highly anticipated teams who they think will proceed to the next stages. Schedules for the games are also dropped in various channels like Twitter, the official PVL PH site and Facebook.

FIFA World Cup 2022 is at seventh place among the trends. The star-studded opening ceremony featuring renowned artists like Morgan Freeman and Jeon Jungkook (BTS), along with the superb cultural performances, brought the world’s attention, fan or not, towards the tournament. The anticipated football matches and people’s favorite players like Portuguese Ronaldo and South Korean Son also trended along.

Another win for the Filipino sports enthusiasts as PBA makes it to the eighth spot of the trends list. The basketball league which started in May 2022 continues on with the matches, pitting various teams against each other. Updates, schedules, commentaries and anticipated teams and players filled social media. Relative hashtags like #pba and a couple of team hashtags also trended as they were utilized for easy access of the latest news about the tournament.

Local TV show, It’s Showtime and Blackpink conclude the Top 10

Experience the true Kapamilya spirit by checking out Showtime (or It’s Showtime!), at Number 9. The annual segment Magpasikat2022, a showcase of talent and production of Showtime hosts gained high engagements for the month. Superstar girl group Blackpink joins the trends at Number 10. Camila Cabello’s appearance during Kim Jisoo’s solo stage and the conclusion of their North American tour in Los Angeles on November 20 brought the high engagement. Expectedly, their fandom, Blinks, posted actively on social media on the girls’ concert performances,  fancams and live tweets. Blackpink is going to hold a concert in the Phiippines on March 25 and 26, 2023 at the Philippine Arena.
