Chinese firm Grandsun pursues expansion in Batangas

A Guangdong, China-based electronics company at the forefront of the global production of headphones (wired and Bluetooth), Bluetooth speakers, drivers, and other related intelligent devices, is now proceeding with the second phase of its expansion project in the Philippines.

DTI Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo discusses with Shenzhen Grandsun chairman and founder Charles Wu at the Zhaoqing facility of the Chinese consumer electronics company which produces headphones (wired and bluetooth), Bluetooth speakers, drivers and other related intelligent devices.

Shenzhen Grandsun chairman and founder Charles Wu conveyed this during a meeting with Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary and Board of Investments managing head Ceferino Rodolfo, who was in Zhaoqing City to invite the Chinese company’s suppliers to support the supply chain requirements of Grandsun by setting up complementary presence in the Philippines.

Shenzhen Grandsun was one of the Chinese companies who joined the exclusive roundtable meeting on strategic projects with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during his state visit to China in January.

Wu confirmed that Grandsun Advanced Electronics (Philippines) Co. Inc. (GAEPCI), which began its audio devices (headphones) production facility at the LIMA facility in Batangas during the pandemic, is now running full blast, and that two new factories in the Philippines will be opened by the end of 2025.

The two new factories are expected to house additional production facilities that will be tapped for the additional production for the US and European markets of OEM and house-brands of Shenzhen Grandsun’s speakers.

Total investments by the Guangdong-based company in the country are expected to exceed P3 billion.  Total employees by end 2023 would reach 1,000, with the company targeting to provide 8,000 jobs in the Philippines by 2028.

Shenzhen Grandsun was ranked 7th globally on the Global Smart Headphone Invention Patent Ranking, behind Apple (#5) and Qualcomm (#6) and ahead of LG (#8) and Huawei (#10).

Rodolfo said the complementarity of Shenzhen Grandsun in the Philippines is a good model for other possible Chinese locators to the Philippines, as it allows a top Chinese OEM and original brand manufacturer to work with Filipino talent as they address growing global requirements of their top customers specially from the EU and the US.

Rodolfo, who was in the city of Nanning to head the Philippines’ participation in the 20th China ASEAN Expo, met with Wu in Zhaoqing to personally express to the founder of Shenzhen Grandsun, the DTI-BOI’s gratitude for the confidence of the Chinese company in doing business in the Philippines during the pandemic, and lauded its long-term plan of expanding their growing audio equipment manufacturing business in the Philippines along with its Filipino executives who were previously part of the company’s growth in the last 26 years in the Chinese headquarters.

Rodolfo also met with Zhaoqing Mayor Xu Xiaoxiong who lauded the presence of the Philippines in showing its commitment to building relations with his city where Shenzhen Grandsun is also expanding its manufacturing footprint, along with other companies involved in food and beverage, agriculture, mining, new energy vehicle (NEV) and parts manufacturing and other industries.

Zhaoqing City is also the existing site of one of the packaging facilities of San Miguel Corp. in China.
