Are Jennie (Blackpink) and V (BTS) the new power couple of the K-industry following Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin?
Rumours of the Jen-Tae couple first sparked when V accidentally followed Jennie back in December 2021 due to her account suddenly showing up in his recommendations. He quickly unfollowed and took to Weverse to explain his mistake. “Instagram is scary…” was his final statement regarding the incident.
Since then, shippers have already started rooting for the incidental couple. However, the rumour only peaked when two blurry photos of the Jen-Tae pair, in what appears to be their private date in Jeju, surfaced last May 22nd of this year. As if to make the situation more chaotic, a K-netz claiming to be a representative of T’way Airlines confirmed on Blind – an anonymous Korean SNS – that they indeed saw the couple aboard a flight to Jeju, even going as far as revealing the alleged flight details of the two.
A number of ARMYs and Blinks debunked such claims, calling them absurd and groundless. According to them, the photos were either manipulated or the people involved are merely lookalikes of the idols. They also voiced their suspicions about the alleged airline employee. YGE, Blackpink’s company, neither confirmed nor denied anything while HYBE, BTS’s agency, stayed silent on the matter. In the end, the rumour remained a mystery and no official statement has been made regarding it. This, however, empowered Jen-Tae shippers, enabling them to shamelessly force their unverified claims across Twitter, stretching the issue for days.
Their ego further ballooned at the dawn of gurumiharibo (Twitter), who started to “leak” alleged private couple photos of the two idols. The postings started last August 25th with a seemingly backstage mirror photo of V, taken by Jennie, whilst preparing for his flight to Paris for Celine’s Fashion Week. Just a day later, another mirror selfie of the alleged couple inside V’s own apartment surfaced.
More “leaks” following these commenced in a span of weeks. ARMYs and Blinks publicly and privately reached out to both HYBE and YGE to address the issue but nothing’s heard from either. A YGE representative’s comment about “BLACKPINK having a full schedule whilst in the US” is the last official statement to ever come from either agency.
The rumour further gained popularity due to the couple’s alleged Lovestagram where they posted somewhat similar photos during their stay in New York for their respective schedules. Following this is another “leak” from September 8th and it is a seemingly cropped and muted backstage video of V, back when he was preparing to fly for his Celine schedule.
Another “leak” from September 16th showcased four photos of the alleged Jeju date. However, fans speculate that the man in the photo is a cosplayer and not V. The most recent “leak” of Jen-Tae dancing together during Born Pink’s alleged private listening party trended a day later, but fans debunked it due to the conflicting schedules of the pair.
