Capstone-Intel Measured the Online Engagement of NBA Enthusiasts for 4 Teams (LA Lakers, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a prominent organization composed of 30 professional basketball teams situated across North America. It is widely acknowledged as the foremost men’s professional basketball league worldwide. As a well-respected and globally renowned sports brand, the NBA has established a robust social media presence. Currently, the league boasts the largest following, particularly on Facebook, as indicated by a 7-day research study conducted by Capstone-Intel Corporation.

The aim of the research carried out from May 16 to May 22, 2023, is to provide a comprehensive understanding of fan behavior in the sports industry by utilizing Facebook as one platform for analysis.

The NBA Finals showcase the highest-ranking teams that are closely monitored by the general public, namely the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Heat. The tracking of these teams was conducted through Facebook data from the Philippines, utilizing keyword analysis of basketball team names to measure Facebook performance. This study highlights the Philippines’ strong interest in basketball, indicating its position as the primary sport in the country and its growing fandom.

The methodology of this study involved identifying and analyzing target keywords, including the Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Heat. Sentiment analysis was performed through reactions, channels/influencers, and word clouds to gain insights into the popularity of the teams.

This study employs graphical elements, including charts and graphs, to present and analyze numerical data, functions, and other qualitative structures in a visually concise and clear manner. The objective of this approach is to enhance public comprehension of the current noise level surrounding the 2023 NBA Finals.

In a broader analysis, Capstone-Intel conducted a website comparison between April 24 and May 21, 2023. The results indicate that pages and subpages on nba.com featuring keywords related to the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, and Denver Nuggets garnered a total of 6,577 visits. It is noteworthy that the Miami Heat received the most visits, followed by Denver, Boston, and the Los Angeles Lakers, respectively.

Moreover, the study substantiates the veracity of its findings by citing primary sources such as GMA News, GMA Sports PH, One Sports, ClutchPoints, NBA Buzz, and other credible sources that showcase the current trends of a particular NBA team.
