The queen reclaimed her trending throne! ABNP stays on Top 2
Catholic Church topped the trends once again. For the month of November, known as the “Month of Remembrance”, social media and news programs were filled with Filipinos’ various religious ways of commemorating their departed ones. Liturgical masses were also held during All Saints Day and All Souls Day – November 1 and 2 – and the first date is especially instated as a Holy Day of Obligation.
GMA 7’s latest medical drama Abot Kamay na Pangarap starring Jillian Ward earns the second spot. Secrets revealed, new characters, conflicts, plot twists and turns prove to be entertaining to the Filipino viewers. The show remains as the most highly anticipated and the most watched afternoon drama since its pilot episode.
Typhoon, volleyball, League of Legends keep FB users engaged
Typhoon Paeng is at the third spot. The severe tropical storm caused numerous flash floods and landslides which claimed 154 lives (number is exclusive of livestock and family pets), 35 missing persons and major destruction of infrastructures. The typhoon caused flooding and landslides in various provinces such as Maguindanao, Antique and Leyte. News sites and social media updates were on the course of the typhoon and its aftermath, and disaster and emergency guidelines for public use. Hashtags relative to the topic made it possible for netizens to easily share their experiences and situation, and get the help and/or rescue they needed.
Volleyball enthusiasts rejoice as Philippine Volleyball League (PVL) claims Number 4. The 2022 Champions League kick-started on the November 5 at Philsports Arena. The engaging posts were on: streaming links and updates, and netizen’s comments about the tournament and their most anticipated player/s.
Another win for the gamers as Worlds 2022 trended at Number 5, following the trending of DOTA on October. On September 29, the 2022 League of Legends Championship welcomed 24 teams from all around the globe to a race towards the Summoner’s Cup. The tournament has over 2 Million USD prize pool at stake. The e-sports tournament concluded on November 5 and DRX won the 12th World Champion title.
Undas, Walang Pasok, Maria Clara at Ibarra made it to the top 10
Undas 2022 is at sixth place. Filipinos celebrate Undas annually, a day to remember their departed loved-ones and and an opportunity to display Halloween costumes. Posts on cemeteries, traffic updates, prices of candles and flowers, stores to buy “Undas necessities”, and government directives got high engagements.
A highly anticipated phrase, “Walang Pasok!” trended at seventh. However, the reason for the trend is rather unfortunate, as it prompts horrid aftermaths of Typhoon Paeng. #WalangPasok was used to inform the public of areas gravely affected by the typhoon and to notify students and workers if they have work or school.
Another one of GMA 7’s shows Maria Clara at Ibarra is trending at eighth place. The unique mystical/historical drama remains a hit to the Filipino society, thanks to its overarching educational and historical aspect and romantic-comedy touch. The rising plot of the show which included Klay’s (a female lead portrayed by Barbie Forteza) assimilation to the story “she entered” and the blooming Klay-Fidel tandem also helped the show maintain its high ratings.
Basketball and P-pop fans are on the roll
Sports enthusiasts are on the roll as PBA enters the top trending list at ninth. Meralco Bolts, Bay Area Dragons, NLEX Road Warriors and Barangay San Miguel are few of the anticipated teams to play in the month of November.
