ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles End Petro Gazz’s Winning Streak, Take Game 1 of PVL Quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines — The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles pulled off a major upset, sweeping the Petro Gazz Angels in straight sets, 25-21, 25-23, 27-25, to claim Game 1 of the PVL 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday at PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Thunderbelles Snap Angels’ 10-Game Streak

ZUS ended Petro Gazz’s impressive 10-game winning streak, securing the upper hand in their playoff matchup.

The Thunderbelles faced a tough challenge in the third set, falling behind 20-17. However, a 4-1 scoring run, powered by Chinnie Arroyo’s aggressive attacks, turned the tide and gave ZUS a slim 21-20 lead.

Clutch Finish for ZUS

Petro Gazz leaned on Brooke Van Sickle and Myla Pablo, who traded points with the determined Thunderbelles, leading to a 25-all deadlock.

But Pablo committed an attack error before getting blocked by Jov Gonzaga, sealing a 27-25 victory for ZUS and completing the sweep.

Key Performers

Mich Gamit led the way for ZUS, finishing with 10 points, including six attacks, two blocks, and two aces, helping her team move one step closer to advancing in the tournament.
