Cignal Nears PVL Playoffs After Victory Over Capital1

MANILA, Philippines — Cignal moved one step closer to securing a playoffs berth in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference after a four-set win over Capital1, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Thursday, March 6.

Following an upset loss to Galeries in the qualification round, the HD Spikers bounced back strongly and are now just one win away from advancing to the quarterfinals.

Delos Santos: ‘This Win is a Big Help for Us’

“I am grateful, everyone is healthy and has no injuries. We need this win, this is what we need this time. This is a big help for us, coming to the next game,” head coach Shaq Delos Santos said after the match.

Leading the way for Cignal was Vanie Gandler, who finished with 21 points on 20 attacks and a block. Meanwhile, Rose Doria-Aquino contributed 18 points to the victory.

Defensive Effort and Key Performances

Team captain Dawn Macandili-Catindig anchored Cignal’s floor defense, tallying 18 excellent digs and seven excellent receptions.

For Capital1, Trisha Genesis and Leila Cruz each scored 12 points, but their efforts were not enough to stop Cignal’s dominant performance.

Next Match Determines Quarterfinal Berth

Cignal now faces a must-win match against ZUS on March 11. A victory would secure their spot in the next round.
