GrabPet is back! Here’s what you can do to bring your fur babies with you

Fur real!

Yes, you heard it right. Popular ride-hailing app Grab has steered back and announced the comeback of its GrabPet feature.
In 2019, Grab announced the GrabPet service to cater to the growing demand of Filipino commuters, especially fur parents, who wish to roam around the city with their fur babies. The service was discontinued in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vehicles available for GrabPet bookings have six seats and can carry up to four people, plus one large pet or two medium dogs. You can take your rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, fish, or turtle on vacation with you in addition to your dog or cat, thanks to this service.

Currently, the GrabPet service is available in select Metro Manila areas, including the Makati-BGC area, Shaw-Ortigas area, Pasay-Mall of Asia, NAIA area, Malate-Ermita area, and San Juan.

What about it?

Under the GrabPet feature, passengers are ensured that all Grab drivers are “trained” to handle and transport pets. In a statement, it said that cars are equipped with in-car seat covers, practice good hygiene in order to keep every ride clean and safe for passengers, and have pet in-car accident compensation, which automatically insures and compensates all pets onboard in case of an accident.

What are the rules?

As per Grab, the following are the guidelines for bringing a pet during the ride:

● During the trip, every GrabPet ride needs to have at least one adult passenger with them at all times.

● On the GrabPet ride, dogs are required to be held either by a leash or by being crated.

● Along the GrabPet ride, small pets such as cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, hedgehogs, and squirrels are required to be put inside a crate.

● When availing of the GrabPet ride service, all fish, turtles, crabs, and frogs must be contained within an airtight container.

● Before you get on the ride, you need to be sure that your pets have been treated for parasites, ticks, and fleas.

● It is illegal to transport animals with the intention of selling them or to engage in any kind of unauthorized trafficking of animals.

● In the event that your animals mess up the car, both the driver-partners and the passenger will be responsible for having their vehicles fixed.

● If the pet exhibits signs of aggressiveness or the passenger does not adhere to the policies, the driver reserves the right to terminate the reservation without incurring any fees.

Some tips to consider upon availing of the GrabPet service In a separate report, pet owners can always have a seamless trip with their fur babies as long as they consider the following:

Before leaving, give your pet a small amount of food three to four hours in advance. Always make a pit stop to feed your dog while traveling. It’s dangerous to feed them while driving. Doing so might prevent motion sickness in pets.

Preparing a pet travel kit is as important as preparing yourself. Include any documentation showing that your pet has been immunized recently. You should bring your pet’s regular diet, water bowl, and any necessary medications just in case your pet encounters health-related incidents.

Keep your pet from hanging its head out the window. It’s adorable to see how pleased this makes certain dogs. In the event of an accident or if you have to suddenly apply the brakes or turn, however, your pet runs the risk of being injured by flying glass or being thrown out the window.

Now that GrabPet is back, maximize your experience by making your pet secure.
